Venturino Venturi, whose father was a stone cutter and his mother, a farm worker, was born in Loro Ciuffenna (province of Arezzo, AR) on 6 April 1918. While still a child, he followed his emigrant parents, first to France until 1929, and then in Luxembourg until 1934. There, he studied architecture and worked as a stone cutter. In 1934, he left his family and returned to Italy to continue his studies. He attended the State Institute of Art, and then the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. He fought in the Second World War, and was wounded on the Greco-Albanian front. He then spent four years in a military hospital.
